PowerPoint is currently rolling out the new Live feature, which includes several capabilities that are even more valuable during these days of remote learning. I am excited that Day 110 of 365 Ideas for Microsoft 365 is about PowerPoint Live. This is a web-based function so you will only find it in the online version of PowerPoint. You will find it under the Slide Show tab in the ribbon, alongside other recent new features in PowerPoint, Subtitles and Rehearse with Coach. Going Live On the presenter’s side of things, it is called, “Present Live”. As you will see, the audience view is called PowerPoint Live.Read More →

OneNote is often described as a digital binder system. I often say that I used to describe OneNote not as a place to create, but a place to store and organize what you create in other places. There are so many creation tools in OneNote that I can no longer say that, but that doesn’t change the fact that OneNote still does an awesome job at storing and organizing (and sharing) content. There are two tabs for inserting content of a document, spreadsheet or presentation onto a page in OneNote.  You can simply add a link to the File, like you could in a WordRead More →

Unmatched commitment to accessibility is what sets Microsoft Office and their other educational programs and apps apart. Today’s obscure topic is how the Alt key unlocks accessibility features across the Microsoft Office apps. Day 96 of 365 Ideas for Office 365 is the Alt key. Universal Design for Learning Accessibility is an interesting thing.  The idea of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is to provide helps for everybody (make them universally available), not just for individuals with more apparent disabilities.  Sometimes our needs are related to a permanent or temporary disability, but some idea that are created for a specific group of people helps theRead More →

PowerPoint is just my favorite, my first EdTech love.  OneNote and Minecraft are close behind, but there’s just so much you can do #OnlyInPowerPoint.  These are all topics I’ve treated separately, but I really think they deserve to be pulled all together into one place.  (PowerPoint’s Greatest Hits?) There’s a lot here, so no pictures and just a brief description follow, but you can click on any of these to get a lot more information. Day 90 of 365 Ideas for Office 365. Presenter Coach– #OnlyInPowerPoint This one is truly #OnlyInPowerPoint- Rehearse your PowerPoint presentation and get live feedback and a summary via AI.  ThisRead More →

Zoom in PowerPoint.  As in, zoom from one slide to another.  And back again.  With the click of a mouse.  Welcome to Day 48 of 365 Ideas for Office 365, ANOTHER feature that is #OnlyinPowerPoint.  I used to make a Table of Contents in PowerPoint by clicking and dragging over text in the TOC, and making it a link.  Instead of linking to a url (website), I would link to another slide in the presentation.  Sometimes I still do that, but more often I will just use Zoom.  (Actually, unless I want a visual, rather than a textual, TOC, I still do them the oldRead More →

Have you ever been making a slideshow, and wanted to reuse slides from another presentation?  What did you do?  Find the other slideshow, open it, scroll down to the slide (or slides) you wanted, right-clicked, copy (or Ctrl-C), go back to your new presentation and right-click, paste (or Ctrl-V).  And if you want more than one, instead of repeating the whole process, you could hold down the Ctrl button as you select the slides you wanted to copy.  Introducing “Reuse Slides” Now you don’t have to do any of that. Now PowerPoint lets you reuse your slides from other slideshows without needing to open them,Read More →

In case you don’t know, infographics are just what they sound like- a way to show large amounts of information and data in an easy to comprehend, graphic format.  Infographics are particularly a great way to show the interaction or relationship between different sets of data or easily digest multiple sets of data. You can build infographics in PowerPoint yourself, or you can just take advantage of theRead More →

A couple days ago we looked at Dictation, Microsoft’s tool for speech to text found throughout the Microsoft Office Suite.  That tool uses an online engine to convert speech to text.  Yesterday we looked at another way that engine is used- creating live captions, or subtitles, of your speech while presenting in PowerPoint.  Today definitely builds on that, as we will look at another way that tool works in conjunction with Microsoft’s online translation tool.  Welcome to Day 43 of 365 Ideas for Office 365, Presentation Translator.  Translate into different languages simultaneously The live captions in PowerPoint allows you to choose one of twelve languagesRead More →

Yesterday we looked at Dictation, Microsoft’s speech to text service that uses an online engine throughout many of the Microsoft Office Suite.  Today we will look at another way that AI tool is utilized- live captions in PowerPoint.  When you choose to turn on captions, PowerPoint will listen to what you say as you are presenting and show your words on screen as a running caption- like closed captioning on a television.  Welcome to Day 42 of 365 Ideas for Office 365. Starting Live Captions There is no need to prepare anything ahead of time- just create your PowerPoint presentation as normal.  When it comesRead More →
